Terms and parent consent
Version 2026-11-05. You read and agree to these when you register. If they change, we will ask you to agree again.
What this is
Primary Math Tutor is an early version. It is not a finished product. It may change, stop working or be switched off at any time.
Who may register
- You must be a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or over. The account is yours.
- Children use the tutor only through your account (their hero name and the password you set), with your supervision. You are responsible for how your child uses it.
How the AI is used
The tutor uses these services:
- Claude, AI models made by Anthropic, reads photos of questions, plans the bar model, double-checks the answer, checks your child's drawings, and replies to your child's questions during a lesson.
- Deepgram turns your child's voice into text while the microphone is on.
- Resemble AI speaks the teacher's lines (only the teacher's words are sent, never your child's).
What is sent to these services
To run a lesson:
- to Anthropic: the question your child types, or the photo or PDF they upload, anything they type in the lesson, and a photo of their drawing when they ask "Check my bar model";
- to Deepgram: your child's voice while the microphone is on;
- to Resemble AI: the teacher's lines only.
Anthropic's, Deepgram's and Resemble AI's own terms and privacy policies apply to what they receive. We do not send them your name, email, your child's name or hero name, or the progress we keep.
What we keep
See privacy.md (shown as "What we store"). In short: your display name, each child's first name or nickname, level, avatar, hero name and a hashed password, and their lesson progress and saved lessons. We never keep photos, audio, transcripts or your email address.
To improve the tutor we also keep the text of questions it couldn't do, and anything you send with "Report a problem" (the question, the tutor's plan and your note). The person who runs Primary Math Tutor can see these, and usage per family (your display name, your children's nicknames, levels and progress) on an admin page, only to run and improve the service. You can delete a child, or your whole account and everything in it, at any time from the family panel.
AI can make mistakes
Every number the tutor shows is checked by code against a verified bar model, and two models must agree on an answer before it is shown. Even so, the tutor can be wrong, misread a photo or mishear your child. It is a learning aid, not a replacement for a teacher. If something looks wrong, trust your judgement.
Fair use
New problems are limited per family per day so the prototype stays available for everyone. Please don't upload anything that isn't a maths question, or anything personal about your child.
What you agree to
By ticking the boxes when you register, you confirm that:
- you are the child's parent or legal guardian and are 18 or over;
- you agree that your child's questions, photos and typed answers are sent to Anthropic (Claude), and their voice (while the microphone is on) to Deepgram, to run the lessons, as described above;
- you will supervise your child's use, and you understand the AI can make mistakes.
